Dr. David Umoh

Director, Disease Control and Immunization


Dr. David Umoh serves as the State Immunization Officer and Director of Disease Control and Immunization at the Akwa Ibom State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (AKSPHCDA), where he provides strategic leadership for immunization programming and disease surveillance across the state's 31 Local Government Areas. A fully registered and licensed General Medical Practitioner with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, he brings over two decades of clinical practice and public health administration experience to the role, underpinned by a strong record of integrity, sound judgement, and commitment to organizational and public health objectives.

Dr. Umoh holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB,BCh) from the University of Calabar (2006) and a Master of Public Administration from the National Open University of Nigeria (2023), where he is also completing a Master of Science in Public Health. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration and holds certifications in Leadership and Management in Health, Project Management in Global Health, Monitoring and Evaluation in Global Health, Policy Development and Advocacy for Global Health, and Fundamentals of Implementation Science, all from the University of Washington, alongside credentials in International Health Administration, Healthcare Data Analytics, and Disaster Management. He is also a certified Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support provider under the American Heart Association.

Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Umoh served as Medical Superintendent at Union Cottage Hospital, Asong, Mkpat Enin LGA (2021–2024), and Cottage Hospital, Ika LGA (2018–2020), and as Medical Officer at General Hospital, Ikot Ekpene (2009–2018), within the Akwa Ibom State Hospitals Management Board. His earlier career included service as a Corps Medical Officer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, and an internship at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.

His professional contributions have been recognized with the Best Guv'nor Award (2018 and 2019) from De Norsemen Kclub International and the Distinguished Professional Contributions to Health Administration Award and Fellowship from the Institute of Corporate Administration (2017).

Dr. Umoh maintains active interests in community medicine, emergency medicine, and global health. He resides in Uyo with his wife and three children.
