The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Martin Akpan, has inaugurated an Inter-Agency Technical Committee, as one of the last steps of the Agency in laying a solid foundation to ensure the smooth implementation of its mandate.
Speaking while inaugurating the Committee, the Chairman of the Agency, Dr. Martin Akpan, stated that the Technical Committee, as entrenched in the Law establishing the Agency, is crucial and important and made up of men and women of competence and professional depth.
While applauding Governor Udom Emmanuel, for yielding to the yearnings of Akwa Ibom people by establishing the Agency, the multi-sectoral Technical Committee which was inaugurated at the Board room of the Agency according to Dr. Akpan, is a standing committee of the Agency, with enormous responsibilities.
The AKSPHCDA boss, enumerated the Technical Committee’s Terms of Reference to include collaborating with other relevant stakeholders towards providing effective primary healthcare delivery services, initiate, organize and sponsor programme for effective primary healthcare manpower development as well as create public awareness on the importance of Primary Healthcare.
Other terms of reference for the Inter-Agency Technical Committee, according to Dr. Akpan, are to review performance of the Local Government in the implementation of the programs of the Agency, analyze and validate the performance data of health programmes as well as review and approve training needs of the Agency to streamline and standardize the deployment of Local Government Health Staff in the state.
Dr. Martin Akpan, used occasion to enumerate some of the achievements of the Agency to include forging of strong partnership with National Primary Health Care Development Agency, organizing workshop for Board members and other relevant stakeholders on Primary Health Care Under One Roof policy implementation and putting up Local Government Health Authorities amongst other achievements just as he urged the Committee to adopt a teamwork approach in the discharge of their responsibilities.
In her remarks, the Chairman of the Inter-Agency Technical Committee, Dr. Mrs. Eno Attah, expressed her delight over the Committee which she noted has a wide range of technical competence to leverage on to deliver equitable, quality healthcare services for Akwa Ibom people.
Dr. Eno Attah, who is also the Executive Secretary of Akwa Ibom State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, while commending Gov. Udom Emmanuel, for establishing the Agency and applauding the Akwa Ibom State Primary Healthcare Development Agency Chairman for the opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Technical Committee, assured that the Committee will ensure that the Agency grows in leaps and bounds as well as improved services and facilities for the citizens.
While pledging that the Technical Committee which has Mr. Lawrence Obo as Secretary, will focus on its aims and objectives, Dr. Eno Attah, enjoined members to brace up for robust interaction and challenging tasks associated with the responsibilities of the Committee.
High point of the event was the formal inauguration of the Committee by the Akwa Ibom State Primary Healthcare Development Agency Chairman, Dr. Martin Akpan, which also had the presence of members of the governing Board of the Agency, Elder Sampson Unyeawaji, Hon. Isaac Ukutt, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Lawrence Obo, Director of Accounts, Mrs. Mfon Essien and Director of Administration, Mrs. Regina Udoukpo amongst others.
