With the establishment of the Akwa Ibom State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (AKSPHCDA) and the mandate to provide quality and accessible healthcare for the citizenry, the Management of the Agency visited Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency on a fact finding mission to understudy the operations and day-to-day running of the Agency. This was to glean relevant information towards the success of the agency.
Speaking while receiving the team, the Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu said Primary Healthcare Under One Roof initiative is aimed at ensuring one plan, one management and one monitoring system for PHC and as such will go along way to repositioning healthcare delivery in Akwa Ibom State. She commended the Akwa State House of Assembly for passing the bill for a law to create the agency in the state. She also praised the management team of AKSPHCDA for embarking on the visit while assuring them of Cross River State’s maximum cooperation especially in the area of technical assistance. “We will assist Akwa Ibom State to develop its primary health but all the rules guiding the programme must be adhered to.”
According to her, Akwa Ibom State Government had taken the first step by establishing the State Primary Health Care Development Agency SPHCDA, which will help in driving the Universal health Coverage in the State. She then urged Governor Udom Emmanuel to ensure that adequate facilities and manpower are on ground for the seamless implementation of the programme.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation land Director of PRS, Mr. Lawrence Udo thanked the DG for the warm reception accorded the team and for her willingness to assist AKSPHCDA. Mr. Udo, who represented the Board Chairman, Dr. Martin Akpan, was also full of praises for the Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade for his developmental strides as evidenced in the establishment of and robust support to the Cross river agency. He disclosed that there was a quiet revolution in the health sector of his state, courtesy of the visionary leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel and assured the DG that his State agency when fully operational will work closely with the Cross River agency to discharge their mandate to the people of the two States who are inextricably bound together by history and culture.
